Abra residents with homes damaged by typhoon, 'habagat' receive P90-M aid from DSWD
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has provided cash assistance to Abra residents whose homes were partially or completely destroyed by recent typhoons and the southwest monsoon or “habagat.”
The DSWD-Cordillera Administrative Region (DSWD-CAR) facilitated the distribution of emergency cash transfer (ECT) assistance to 9,912 inviduals.
“We target to finish the payout of all funded ECT by Sept. 14,” DSWD-CAR Regional Director Leo Quintilla said in a statement on Friday, Sept. 8.
He added that P90.54 million has been provided to the disaster-affected families in Abra.
Families with partially damaged homes received P9,000, whereas those with completely damaged homes received P13,500 each.
“The provision of ECT aims to assist the families to recover from the effects of the disaster that struck the province. They can use the cash aid to buy materials for the reconstruction of their houses,” he said.
The southwest monsoon, which was enhanced by super typhoon Goring, typhoon Hanna, and tropical depression Ineng, has affected 6,821 families or 24,764 persons in CAR.
“Currently, there are 52,166 family food packs repositioned in the different warehouses in the Cordillera Administrative Region and P53,477,083.63 worth of other food and non-food items ready to be augmented to the local government units, if they requested,” Quintilla said.
