ILOILO CITY – Two security guards were arrested on Thursday, September 7, in Malay, Aklan for violating the gun ban in the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
Police did not identify the suspects who were arrested in the port across world-famous Boracay Island.
Police Lt. Col. Danis Amuguis, Malay police chief, said the suspects were seen escorting personnel of a bank on Tabon Port with their firearms to get cash in Boracay Island.
Police asked the suspects to present their Certificates of Authority to carry their firearms from the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
However, they failed to present any, prompting the police apprehend them and confiscate their service firearms, two shotguns and a 9mm pistol with ammunition.
Amuguis reminded the public of the election gun ban until November 29. Private security agencies must get certificates from Comelec for exemption.
