Reelectionist village chair shot dead while sleeping


TACLOBAN CITY – A barangay chairman running for reelection in the barangay elections next month and her live-in partner were gunned down on Wednesday, September 6, in their home in Barangay Campeig, Santa Margarita, Samar.

Police identified the victims as Vivian Morales Verano, 46, and her live-in partner, Roel Casaljay, 43.

Initial investigation said the victims were sleeping when six heavily armed men barged into their house and fired at them. The victims died on the spot and the suspects fled to an unknown direction.

Police are conducting follow-up investigation.

Campeig is a hinterland barangay that could be only be reached by walking for about three hours from the highway.
