Recognizing the importance of addressing the challenges posed by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), the Philippine National AIDS Council (PNAC) will be conducting the 1st PNAC HIV Summit on Friday, Sept. 8, at The Heritage Hotel in Pasay City.
PNAC said the summit is in line with the Republic Act (RA) 11166, also known as the Philippine HIV and AIDS Policy Act, and emphasizes the government's unwavering commitment to a comprehensive and multi-sectoral response to HIV and AIDS.
It will also highlight the protection of the rights of individuals living with HIV and promote evidence-informed prevention, treatment, care, and support programs.
Under the theme "Striving for a Nation Free from the Shackles of HIV," the event will provide a vital platform for stakeholders to collaborate in tackling the multifaceted challenges posed by HIV and AIDS.
It will also serve as an opportunity for addressing HIV-related discrimination and advocating for social justice through PNAC's Human Rights Roadmap.
Former government agencies and civil society organizations that were instrumental in the passage of RA 11166 will be honored at the event, highlighting their invaluable contributions.
Expected guests include Department of Health Secretary Dr. Teodoro J. Herbosa, Undersecretary of Health Special Concerns Team Dr. Maria Francia Miciano-Laxamana, Dangerous Drugs Board Secretary Catalino Salandanan Cuy, Barangay Health Workers Party-list Rep. Angelica Natasha Co, and Batanes Rep. Ciriaco B. Gato Jr. (Zekinah Elize Espina)
