Mayor Honey lauds UDM's speedy distribution of allowances to students
Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna lauded the Universidad de Manila (UDM) for distributing allowances to its students in a "very swift manner," while assuring students of Pamantasan Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) that she will resolve the delays in the release of their aid.
On Wednesday, Sept. 6, Lacuna-Pangan expressed her gratitude for the administration of allowances in UDM.
She said that all UDM students received their monthly allowances last month.
The city government provides a P1,000 monthly stipend to each college student and P500 to senior high school students, as part of the local government’s special amelioration program (SAP).
Meanwhile, the mayor addressed the concerns of PLM students and said that the city government had already asked PLM President Emmanuel Leyco to give a definite date as to when the said allowance would finally be given to the students.
Leyco is currently being questioned by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) for his lack of a doctorate degree, a requirement for PLM to be given Institutional Recognition (IR), and a government subsidy amounting to P350 million.
The mayor noted that apart from the city-run university students of PLM and UDM, monthly allowances are also being provided by the city for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and solo parents, among others.
