Mayor Along to regularly check markets' compliance with rice price cap
Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo "Along" Malapitan on Wednesday, Sept. 6, said the local government will regularly check the compliance of rice retailers with the rice price cap as well provide assistance to them.
President Marcos imposed the rice price ceiling starting Tuesday, Sept. 5, at P41 per kilo for regular milled rice and P45 per kilo for well-milled rice.

Other varieties of rice such as Sinandomeng, Dinorado, and Thai Jasmine are not affected by the price cap.
On Wednesday, Malapitan visited Poblacion Public Market to kickstart the local government's inspection of public markets to ensure the compliance of retailers and vendors with the new rice price ceiling
We know that the MPC (Mandated Price Ceiling) will have a great impact on our citizens, so please expect that the city government is ready to support and provide assistance to consumers and businessmen if necessary),"Malapitan said.
As long as the MPC is in effect, regular inspections will continue to be conducted to ensure that all our markets are complying with the set prices),” he added.
The city government also said that its Market Operations Division held a meeting with retailers and market personnel regarding the price mandate. It clarified that no rice stores in the markets in the city temporarily halted their operations due to the price cap.
The ordinance was also issued by the president to protect small-time traders, retailers, and consumers from the alleged widespread practice of illegal price manipulation and hoarding, overpricing, and illegal importation.
Malapitan warned persons and other entities who will try to take advantage of the current rice situation.
I call on all our people to cooperate with us and report anyone who sets a price that is not in accordance with the MPC. You can expect that they will be held accountable) ,” he said.
