Chancellor Clement Camposano said the Western Visayas Journalists’ Guide is part of UP Visayas’ contribution to advocating press freedom and improvement of community journalism.
Camposano said that with the rise of social media as a platform, there is a need to address the concerns of misinformation and disinformation.
The guide is edited by faculty Dr. Zoilo Andrada Jr. and Gerthrode Charlotte Tan-Mabilog, a former news anchor and director of the UP-Visayas Information and Publications Office.
Andrada, who was behind the UP Visayas Bantala Media Excellence Awards, said the Western Visayas Journalists’ Guide is the product of a June seminar-workshop by regional media and bloggers as well as Communication and Media students and lecturers.
Francis Allan Angelo, the editor-in-chief of regional newspaper Daily Guardian, said the guide is part of the partnership of the newly established Iloilo City Media-Citizens Council (ICMC).
Mabilog said media outlets across the region will get a copy as well as colleges and universities that offer mass communication or media courses.
