A 4.5-magnitude earthquake jolted Leyte province on Wednesday evening, Sept. 6, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs said the earthquake, which struck at 10:38 p.m., had its epicenter 6 kilometers (km) northwest of Capoocan, Leyte.
It occurred at a shallow depth of 8 km beneath the epicenter.
Phivolcs’ instruments measured the quake at Intensity V (strong) in Kananga, Leyte; Intensity IV (moderately strong) in Carigara, Leyte; Intensity III (weak) in Ormoc City, Leyte; and Intensity II (slightly felt) in Villaba and Calubian, Leyte.
The earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
However, Phivolcs does not expect damage or aftershocks because of this earthquake.
