TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – The Commission on Elections will monitor the social media accounts of candidates in the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
The Cagayan Provincial Information Office said that Comelec Chairman George Garcia assured that they will monitor possible election law violations such as premature campaigning.
"Once nag-file ka ng Certificate of Candidacy, ikaw ay kandidato na. Bawal ang pag-post, bawal ang pangangamay, bawal ang pag-iikot, bawal ang pamimigay ng kung anu-ano dahil ikaw ay kandidato na (You are already a candidate once you file Certificate of Candidacy. Social media posting, handshakes, going around the barangay, and distributing giveaways are prohibited because you are already a candidate)," said Garcia.
Comelec Resolution No. 10905 said BSKE candidates are not allowed to campaign themselves as well as discuss their platform until the campaign period starts.
The campaign period will be held from October 19 to 28.
The Comelec said candidates engaged in premature campaigning faces a prison term of one to six years and disqualified from holding a government position.
