BOC, PEZA forge trade security agreement

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) and the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) signed on Wednesday, Sept. 6, an agreement to strengthen the efficiency and security of trade and economic zone operations in the country.

Under the Data Sharing Agreement, PEZA will be granted access to BOC’s Electronic Tracking of Containerized Cargoes (E-TRACC) System data which enables the real-time monitoring of containerized goods and individuals within and outside economic zones. 

"This partnership promises to enhance efficiency, transparency, and security in cargo transportation to and from these zones,” the Customs said in a statement.

The key provisions of the agreement encompass data privacy, security, storage, and retention of confidential information.

The Customs, which oversees the handling, custody, and delivery of goods at all ports of entry, said that the E-TRACC System has been instrumental in real-time monitoring of containerized goods’ inland movements.

Meanwhile, PEZA is responsible for the regulation, supervision, and facilitation of business operations within economic zones.

"Their contributions to the nation’s growth and prosperity are evident through the vibrant economic activity within these zones," the BOC further stated.

The BOC and PEZA said that they will implement stringent measures to ensure that sensitive data is used solely for its intended purposes.

The Data Sharing Agreement signifies a collective commitment in fostering innovation, efficiency, and compliance within the agencies’ respective domains, the BOC said.
