60 families displaced in Quiapo fire

Around 60 families were displaced in a fire that gutted at least 15 rooms at a residential building in Quiapo, Manila, on Wednesday morning, Sept. 6.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire started on the third floor of a three-storey residential building on Globo de Oro Street around 6 a.m. 

The fire was raised to the first alarm at 6:17 a.m. and to the second alarm at 6:23 a.m. It took another hour before the blaze was put under control at 7:18 a.m. 

Responding firefighters managed to contain the fire at 7:53 a.m.

The Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRMO) deployed emergency medical services personnel to provide medical care and first aid to the affected residents.

Authorities had distributed hot meals and bottled waters to 68 affected families or 181 individuals. They temporarily sheltered at the evacuation center in Barangay 384.

The fire incident damaged an estimated amount of P225,000.

Meanwhile, the northbound lanes of Quezon Boulevard from Carlos Palanca Street to Quezon Bridge were temporarily closed to motorists to give way to responding fire trucks. 

Authorities announced the reopening of the said roads at around 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
