2 men, minor arrested for carnapping in Pasig City

Two men and a 15-year-old boy were arrested by Pasig City police officers for allegedly stealing motorcycles in three separate incidents on Monday, Sept. 4.

Pasig Police Chief Col. Celerino Sacro Jr. identified the arrested suspects as "Sam," 15, a child-in-conflict-with-the-law (CICL); "Marcel," 20; and their cohort "Jelal," 18.

According to the police, the Manggahan Police Substation (SS8) received a report from a 33-year-old businessman claiming his white Yamaha Mio Sporty motorcycle was missing at around 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 4.

The motorcycle was last seen parked outside of his residence, said the complainant.

A joint follow-up operation was conducted by personnel from the SS8, Ortigas Police substation (SS1), and Miguel Police Substation (SS6), along with operatives from the Intelligence Section, Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU), and station SWAT teams.

Investigation led the police to Sam who was seen driving the complainant's motorcycle, and Marcel who was driving a black Suzuki Smash motorcycle along Amang Rodriguez Avenue in Barangay Manggahan, Pasig City.

Upon conducting a body search of the two suspects, police recovered a .38 caliber revolver with two live ammunition from Sam, and one hand grenade from Marcel.

Police discovered that the black Suzuki motorcycle was stolen from a 29-year-old salesman, who also filed a complaint for his missing vehicle at 6 a.m. on Sept. 4.

Sam and Marcel divulged the identity of their cohorts Jelal and "Rex" to police, leading to Jelal's subsequent arrest at 6 p.m.

Confiscated from Jelal was a blue Yamaha Mio Sporty motorcycle that belonged to a 36-year-old vendor who also reported her missing vehicle to the police at 6 a.m.

Rex is still being pursued by the police.

The suspects are detained at the Pasig police custodial facility.

They are facing charges for violation of Republic Act (RA) No. 10883 or the "New Anti-Carnapping Act;" RA No. 10591 or the "Comprehensive Firearms And Ammunition Regulation Act" in relation to Omnibus Election Code; and RA No. 9516 or "Illegal Possession of Explosives."
