Barangay Ginebra forward Christian Standhardinger defended Scottie Thompson after critics cited the latter's performance for Gilas Pilipinas in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Standhardinger vented his ire on his Instagram story, saying that Thompson’s dedication and sacrifices just to help the national team are truly unmatched.
“Left his newborn baby and flew out to Europe to practice twice a day, always available to play for the country with no incentives [needed]. Injured his hand in Gilas practice, rushed back to play in the World Cup risking his health,” Standhardinger posted on Tuesday, Sept. 5.
The Filipino-German also encouraged fans to support national team athletes.
“Didn't fill out the stat sheets as expected but anybody knows he brings more to the table than only stats, still criticized,” Standhardinger wrote.
“Let's celebrate our athletes instead of tearing them down."
Thompson finished his run in the World Cup with averages of 1.8 points, two rebounds and 2.2 assists in five games.
