TAAL, Batangas – A barangay chairman here running for reelection in the barangay elections next month was gunned down in Barangay Poblacion, Zone 10, this town, on Tuesday, September 5.
The Police Regional Office 4-A identified the victim as Erasmo Divino Hernandez, chairman of Barangay Poblacion Zone 10.
Investigation said Hernandez was seated in the rest area of the barangay hall at 7:20 a.m. when two unidentified men wearing helmets and jacket and riding a black motorcycle arrived.
The suspects drew caliber .45 pistols and shot the victims multiple times.
The suspects fled onboard the motorcycle toward the direction of Santa Teresita, Batangas. Hernandez was taken to the Lemery Doctors Hospital in Lemery, this province, where he was declared dead.
Police have yet to determine the motive and further investigation of the murder is underway.
Meanwhile, the Batangas Police Provincial Office (BPPO) has formed a Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) to investigate the killing of Hernandez.
BPPO director Police Col. Samson Belmonte, SITG head, said their goal is to hunt down and find out the identity of the suspects.
The Batangas PNP will not stop until those involved in this incident are tracked down and apprehended. The entire police force's condolences go out to the victim's family, Belmonte said.
