‘Ineng’ exits PH area of responsibility; ‘habagat’ to gradually weaken

Tropical depression Ineng (international name: Yun-yeung) left the country’s area of responsibility at 4 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 6, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its 5 a.m. bulletin, PAGASA said Ineng was last located 1,240 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon.

In the next 24 hours, the trough or extension of Ineng may still bring scattered moderate to heavy rains and thunderstorms to Batanes, Abra, Apayao, Cagayan, and Isabela.

Meanwhile, occasional moderate to heavy rains due to the southwest monsoon, “or habagat,” may continue to affect the Ilocos Region, Zambales, and Bataan.

Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may also persist in Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, the rest of Central Luzon, and the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region

PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina said that with the departure of Ineng and the dissipation of tropical storm Haikui (previously known as “Goring”), the effect of the enhanced southwest monsoon is expected to weaken this week.

He also noted that PAGASA has not monitored any new low-pressure area or tropical cyclone that may affect the country until the weekend.
