Couple operating drug den in Cebu busted

CEBU CITY – A couple allegedly operating a drug den was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Duljo Fatima here on Monday afternoon, September 4.

Joey Abellana, 41, and his 43-year-old wife Josephine were cornered by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Central Visayas (PDEA-7) and Station 11 of the Cebu City Police Office.

Junrey Algabre, 38; Franco Yngayo, 23; and Michael Mendoza, 40, were also arrested after they were allegedly caught in the drug den during the operation.

Among the items seized during the operation were two packs of suspected shabu with an estimated market value of P136,000.

Leia Alcantara, information office of PDEA-7, said the couple’s alleged illegal drug activities were reported to their office by concerned citizens.

It took a month of surveillance before the drug den was dismantled, Alcantara said.

“Based on the monitoring, the couple was disposing of 20 grams of shabu a week,” said Alcantara.
