The Commission on Elections (Comelec)-Laguna reported that 27,983 individuals are running in the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in the province on October 30.
The Office of the Provincial Election Supervisor said 1,949 are candidates for barangay chairman, of which 1,608 are males and 341 are females.
It said that 14,058 – 10,172 males and 3,886 females – are running for “kagawad” or barangay councilors.
On the other hand, 1,784 persons, 1,171 males and 613 females, are aspiring to become SK chairman.
The Comelec-Laguna said there are 10,147 candidates for SK kagawad – 6,018 males and 4,129 females.
They filed their Certificates of Candidacy during the six-day filing from August 28 to September 2.
Laguna has 24 towns and six cities and is a first-class province in Region 4-A or the Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon area.
