House Deputy Majority Leader and ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Erwin Tulfo thanked Gilas Pilipinas for finding a way to win against rival China in the FIBA Basketball World Cup.
"Congrats Gilas players. Salamat sa pagawa ng paraan for the WIN !!! (Thank you for creating a way to win !!!)," Tulfo wrote on Facebook Sunday, Sept. 3.
The rookie solon couldn't help but comment on the impact of Gilas' victory over China beyond the basketball court, especially with the persisting maritime disputes between Manila and Beijing.
"Inaagaw na nga raw ang West Philippine Sea, akala ng mga tao maaagaw pa ang panalo…hehehe 🙂 🙂 🙂 (They said the West Philippine Sea was being stolen from us, and the people thought that our victory would also get stolen)," Tulfo.

"PERO THANK YOU TALAGA MGA LODI. WE ARE ALL PROUD OF YOU," the former Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) added.
The Jordan Clarkson-led Gilas Pilipinas routed China, 96-75, during the two teams' final match in the ongoing FIBA World Cup. The game was close until the third quarter, when Clarkson dropped five three-pointers.
The Philippines is co-hosting the tournament.
