The Sibol national team emerged as the biggest winners among 111 countries in the IESF World Esports Championships after copping a gold medal in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang event and silver in Tekken in Iasi, Romania.

The SEA Games gold medalist MLBB team delivered the country’s maiden gold medal in the world esports stage after defeating perennial powerhouse Indonesia, 3-1, in the grand finals while Alexandre "AK" Laverez finished with the silver after absorbing a 2-5 loss against Pakistani Atif “Atif” Ijaz in the grand finals.
The Philippine Esports Organization expressed its elation over the achievement of the Sibol after bettering its previous two silver medal haul in last year’s edition.
“Our Sibol team and its esports program are a testament that our Filipino athletes can achieve world-class recognition and become the best in the world,” said PESO Executive Director Marlon Marcelo in a statement.
“Their success serves as an inspiration to aspiring gamers, especially from the Philippines and Southeast Asia. This victory is a reminder that with passion and commitment, anything is possible in the world of esports,” he added.
The MLBB team, which was composed of members of AP Bren Esports namely Angelo “Pheww” Arcangel, Kyle “KyleTzy” Sayson, David “FlapTzy” Canon, Rowgien “Owgwen” Unigo, Stephen “Super Marco” Requitano, and Jan “XBOCT” Amande, dominated its way to the grand finals not dropping a single game.
It went undefeated in the group stage with a 3-0 record before making quick work of the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia to make a return trip to the IESF finals.
AK, on the other hand, defeated representatives from Colombia, Norway and South Korea to reach the grand finals of the Tekken 7 event.
Sibol also participated in Dota 2 and PUBG Mobile but both fell short for the podium.
The Dota 2 team failed to follow up last year’s silver medal finish, dropping to the 9th-12th place this year while the PUBGM team settled for the ninth place.
