P662,000 stolen cable wires recovered in Lucena


LUCENA CITY, Quezon – Police apprehended six individuals posing as employees of a prominent telecommunications company for allegedly stealing underground cable wires owned by a prominent telecommunications company worth P662,000 in Barangay Cotta here on Sunday, September 3.

The suspects were identified as Noel Santiago, 25, driver; Mark Anthony Leviste, 30, and Roberto Almazan, 21, helper, from Urdaneta City and Villasis, Pangasinan; Jun Dañeles, 39, and Jeric dela Rosa, 30, both from Santolan, Pasig City, and Edgar Pagal, 47, from Pasong Tamo, Quezon City.

Investigation said the suspects entered a manhole on Quezon Ave., Barangay 1 and using bolt cutters, they cut about 1,500 pieces of telephone cables, approximately 300 meters long each, and stashed these on board two Isuzu Elf closed van trucks.

Lawmen from a nearby police station and a passing Special Weapons and Tactics team unit became suspicious due to the odd hour of their activities and apprehended the suspects.

Recovered from the suspects were the stolen cable wires. The suspects posed as employees of the company under maintenance department conducting a legitimate operation.

They are now under the custody of the Lucena City police station custodial facility and face appropriate charges. The two trucks are also under the custody of the police.
