NDRRMC confirms 1 fatality due to 'habagat' enhanced by 'Hanna', 'Goring'
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) confirmed on Monday, September 4, that one person died in Western Visayas (Region 6) due to southwest monsoon (habagat) that was enhanced by typhoons “Hanna” and “Goring”.
An eight-year-old girl drowned while attempting to cross the river with his father in Brgy. Iglinab, Valderrama, Antique, the NDRRMC said.
Meanwhile, the reported fatality in Benguet in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) is still being validated by the NDRRMC.
A 19-year-old young man was also reported missing in San Joaquin, Iloilo after being swept away by flashflood.
Thirty-six-year-old Darwin Gutierrez also sustained injuries due to a landslide in Brgy. Daan Pare, Orion, Bataan.
The three weather systems have already affected 140,101 families or 514,153 persons in Ilocos Region (Region 1), Cagayan Valley (Region 2), Central Luzon (Region 3), Calabarzon (Region 4A), Mimaropa (Region 4B), Western Visayas, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and National Capital Region (NCR).
Of this, there were 915 families or 3,251 individuals who were staying in 52 evacuation centers.
The two cyclones and habagat left a trail of destruction across the affected regions which resulted to P584 million worth of damage to agriculture and P130 million infrastructure loss.
The national government has provided relief assistance worth P33 million to the typhoon victims.
