Heavy 'habagat' rains prompt class suspensions in NCR, provinces
Enhanced southwest monsoon (habagat) rains has promoted local, municipal, and provincial governments in the National Capital Region (NCR), Bulacan, Rizal, and Cavite to suspend classes on Monday, Sept. 4.
In NCR, classes in all levels for public and private schools were cancelled in the cities of Manila, Marikina, Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela, Quezon, San Juan, Muntinlupa, Taguig, Parañaque, Pasay, Las Piñas, and the municipality of Pateros.
The Mandaluyong City government suspended classes for the Kindergarten to Grade 12 levels only.
Among the villages that declared class suspensions in Quezon City were Barangays Holy Spirit, Bagong Silangan, Payatas, Greater Lagro, Apolonio Samson, Kaligayahan, New Era, Kamuning, Balumbato, Roxas, Kaunalran, San Roque, Sauyo, Commonwealth, Sacred Heart, Pasong Tamo, Old Balara, North Fairview, Pinagkaisahan, Bagumbuhay, Obrero, San Bartolome, San Jose, Horseshoe, Bagbag, Cuiat, Tatalon, Milagrosa, Tilapapa, Baesa, Talayan, Bayanihan, Santol, Galas, Pansol, Amihan, E. Rodriguez Sr., and West Kamias.
In the provinces, classes are suspended in the following areas:
- Rizal - Municipality of Cainta
- Cavite - Municipality of Tanza, Imus City, Bacoor City, Cavite City, Dasmariñas City, Kawit, Naic, and Noveleta
- Bulacan - Bustos, Baliwag, Calumpit, Bulakan, Malolos, Paombong, Plaridel, Norzagaray, San, Rafael, Paombong, Angat, and Bocaue
Suspensions included classes in special education facilities or those enrolled through the Alternative Learning System (ALS).
The cancellation of classes was decided upon the recommendation of the governments' respective city, municipality, and provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices DRRMOs, as well as their Schools Division Offices (SDOs).
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Typhoon Hanna has exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Monday morning.
However, the southwest monsoon enhanced by the typhoon will continue to bring occasional light to moderate rains over NCR and other provinces across Luzon.
