ILOILO CITY – Rains enhanced by typhoon “Goring” left one person dead and more than 380,000 people affected in Western Visayas.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD)-6 said on Monday, September 4, that the casualty was an eight-year-old girl from Valderrama, Antique, who drowned while trying to cross a river on August 28.
The OCD-6 which chairs the Western Visayas Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC-6) said 102,508 families or 380,851 persons from 1,113 barangays in Aklan, Antique, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod were displaced by inclement weather.
Most affected were Iloilo province and Iloilo City with 184,727 persons. The province of Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City, had 134,900 persons affected.
The OCD-6 said 55,804 persons were affected in Antique, 5,405 in Guimaras, and 15 persons in Aklan.
The OCD-6 is still awaiting final reports to come in to consolidate the data on damages in the region.
