Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco attended the annual fair which was held from September 1 to 3.
Dapitan City Tourism Officer Apple Marie Agolong said it was through the fair that Dapitan was able to promote and market the four aspects that make the city a preferred choice by local and foreign tourists.
Dapitan was first runner-up in the Best Booth tourism exhibit contest under the cities and municipalities category in the fair.
“During the fair, we promoted the city’s rich culture and heritage, health and wellness, sports and eco-tourism, and entertainment,” said Agolong.
The Dapitan delegation promoted the city as the place of exile of Dr. Jose Rizal.
“We promoted the importance of being the place of Dr. Rizal’s exile. Being the place of his exile made Dapitan a city despite of the fact that it lacks the population and logistics requirement for a place to become a city,” Agolong said.
Under the eco and sports tourism, Dapitan promoted Aliguay and Silinog Island as diving haven.
Dapitan has become a top sports destination after having hosted international mixed martial competitions, kayak adventure with river cleanup, and adventure race.
“We were also able to produce two Mr. Philippines in different categories. They are products of Ginoong Dapitan,” said Agolong.
It is also through the fair that Dapitan was promoted as a favorite place for free driving, technical diving, and recreational diving.
“For entertainment, we have the first theme park in the Visayas and Mindanao and we still believe that it is still the biggest theme park in the Visayas and Mindanao,” said Agolong.
The theme park boasts “Lakbay Pinas” where the best that the Philippines can offer can be seen, Agolong said.
“We have the scariest horror house in the Philippines, the biggest ‘Snow World’ which is twice as big as that of Luzon and twice as big as that of Cebu. Then the city life in Gloria de Dapitan, the food street where we are boasting what Dapitan is offering as far as culinary is concerned,” Agolong.
For wellness, one can relax at the Dakak Park and Beach resort for sessions of yoga and golf, said Agolong.
Agolong added that participating in the fair was timely as Dapitan is promoting its “unlimited fun in Dapitan” tourism package.
“We call it #unlifudap wherein an P8,000 worth of tours is reduced to just P1,500 a person. One can enjoy a free ride from Zamboanga or Cagayan or Dapitan itself because there are walk-ins. The package already includes a city tour, Dakak tour, Dakak accommodation, free entrance to Fantasy Land, free entrance to Snow World and two meals, lunch and dinner,” said Agolong.
