Camanava, QC LGUs suspend classes due to enhanced monsoon rains


The local government units (LGU) of Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela (Camanava) and Quezon cities declared the suspension of classes on Monday, Sept. 4,  due to heavy rains caused by the typhoon-enhanced southwest monsoon.

Navotas City Mayor John Reynald "John Rey" Tiangco and Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo "Along" Malapitan said the suspension of classes was declared in all levels, in public and private schools, based on the recommendation of their disaster risk reduction and management offices.

Classes in all levels in public and private schools, including special education facilities and college, were also suspended in Malabon and Valenzuela.

Meanwhile, in Quezon City, several villages have implemented localized class suspensions in public schools due to continuous heavy rains.

Among the villages that suspended classes on Monday were Barangay Holy Spirit( Public Pre-school to Senior High School - morning and afternoon classes); Barangay Bagong Silangan
(Public Pre-school to Senior High School); Barangay Payatas (Public Pre-school to Senior High School); Barangay Greater Lagro (Public Pre-school to Senior High School); Barangay Apolonio Samson (Public Pre-school, Elementary School, National High School); Barangay Kaligayahan (Kaligayahan Integrated School at Delfin Geraldez Memorial Elementary School); Barangay New Era (Public Pre-school to Elementary School); Barangay Kamuning ( Tomas Morato Elementary School, 
MH Del Pilar Elementary School, Fernando Amorsolo Senior High); Barangay Balumbato (Elementary School);  Barangay Roxas (General Roxas Elementary School); and Barangay Kaunlaran (Ponciano Bernardo Elementary School, Ponciano Bernardo Highschool, Pedro Tuazon Senior Highschool). Brgy. San Roque (Aguinaldo Elementary School, Doña Josefa E. Marcos Elementary School, Camarilla Elementary School, Juan Sumulong High School); Barangay Sauyo (Sauyo Elementary School and Sauyo High School); Barangay Commonwealth (Public Pre-school to Elementary School); Barangay Sacred Heart (Kinder to Grade 12); Barangay Pasong Tamo (All Public Schools); and Barangay Old Balara (Old Balara Elementary School).

Other villages that also declared class cancellations were Barangay North Fairview (Public Pre-school to Senior High School); Barangay Paligsahan (Manuel Roxas High School); Barangay Pinagkaisahan (Ramon Magsaysay Cubao High School); Barangay Bagumbuhay (Kalantiaw Elementary School); Barangay Obrero (Don A Roces Sr Science-Technology High School); Barangay San Bartolome (Public Pre-school to Senior High School); Barangay San Jose (Public Elementary and High School); Barangay Horseshoe; Barangay Bagbag (Public Schools); and Barangay Culiat (Elementary to Senior High School); Barangay Tatalon (Diosdado P. Macapagal Elementary School
Dr. Josefa Jara Martinez High School); Barangay Milagrosa (Pura V. Kalaw Elementary School, Laurel Senior High School, Vito L. Belarmino Senior High School, and private schools in the village); Barangay Talipapa (Placido Del Mundo Elem. School, Talipapa National Senior High School); Barangay Baesa (LR Pascual Elementary School, LB Santos Elementary School); Barangay Talayan (Pace Academy); Barangay Bayanihan (BRCA Blue Ridge Christian Academy); Barangay Santol (Carlos L. Albert High School); Barangay Galas (Aurora A. Quezon Elementary School) Barangay Pansol (All Public Schools); Barangay Amihan (Batino Elementary School -morning and afternoon classes); Barangay E. Rodriguez Sr.; and Barangay West Kamias (Clarion School Institute Inc.)

The Quezon City government said that based on Memorandum Circular No. 10-A, Series of 2022, that follows DepEd Order No. 037, Series of 2022, the suspension of classes in private schools in the city depends on the discretion of the schools' administration.

In Valenzuela City, " Libreng Sakay" was launched to assist passengers as 2-13 inches of flood water inundated several roads including MacArthur Highway.

All the LGUs encouraged their residents to stay indoors to ensure their safety.
