BCDA to auction lease for 3 log-homes in John Hay

  • Winning bidder can choose to pay the full amount or opt for an installment plan. Installment plan requires a minimum downpayment of 20%. Balance can be amortized over five, 10, or 15 years with interest rates of 6%, 8%, or 10% per annum, respectively.


The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) is auctioning off three log-home units at Voice of America (VOA), Camp John Hay, Baguio City. 

In a statement, the BCDA said the company along with its subsidiary John Hay Management Corp. (JHMC) is accepting bids for Units 3, 9, and 20A of the VOA log-homes. 

The minimum bid price for the one-year lease of each property is P2.51 million, and rent options are available for either 25 or 50 years.

Joshua M. Bingcang, BCDA president and chief executive officer described the VOA Estate as an ideal place for individuals, families, and corporations looking for vacation or retirement homes. 

Bingcang also said the estate offers a beautiful landscape with pine trees, rich flora and fauna, and a peaceful residential neighborhood.

“With the opening of this bidding, interested parties may now get the opportunity to lease these prime properties,” he said on Monday, Sept. 4.

According to the BCDA, the lease is in compliance with Republic Act 7227, which directs the expedited conversion of former military reservations into alternative productive purposes.

The VOA log homes are located north of the John Hay Special Economic Zone (JHSEZ) and can be reached via Loakan Road. Built in 2000 on BCDA-owned land within the JHSEZ, the loghomes underwent renovations in 2022.

Each unit has a floor area of 590 square meters and includes essential amenities such as bedrooms, bathrooms, living and dining areas, kitchens, balconies, and a garage. 

The log homes are furnished with fireplaces, saunas, and bathtubs, perfect for the chilly weather of Baguio City.

Eligible bidders for these properties include individuals, cooperatives, or corporations registered under the Department of Trade and Industry, the Cooperatives Development Authority, or the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The terms of reference for the bidding can be purchased starting Aug. 29, 2023. A pre-bid conference and site tour are scheduled for Sept. 14, 2023, at 10:00 AM in Camp John Hay, Baguio City. 

Bid documents must be submitted by Oct. 10, 2023, at 12:00 PM at the BCDA Corporate Center in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. 

The winning bidder can choose to pay the full amount or opt for an installment plan with a minimum downpayment of 20 percent. The balance can be paid over five, 10, or 15 years with varying interest rates. (Gabriell Christel Galang)
