38,015 file COCs for village, SK polls in Quezon in October

LUCENA CITY, Quezon – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Quezon said 38,015 individuals are running in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections on October 30.

Comelec-Quezon chief Allan Enriquez said 2,822 filed Certificates of Candidacy for barangay chairman, 19,868 for councilor or “kagawad,” 2,509 for Sangguniang Kabataan chairman, and 12,816 for SK kagawad.

Lucena City, which has 33 barangays, has 88 candidates running for barangay chairman, 710 for barangay kagawad, 86 for SK chairman, and 520 for SK kagawad.

In the 66 barangays of Tayabas City, 144 are running for barangay chairman, 1,046 for barangay kagawad, 135 for SK chairman, and 817 for SK kagawad.

Lopez town which has the most number of barangays in this province with 95, has 186 candidates for barangay chairman, 1,281 for barangay kagawad, 141 for SK chairman, and 734 for SK kagawad.

In the island-town of Jomalig which has the least number of barangays in this province with only five, 182 filed COCs for barangay chairman, 108 for barangay kagawad, 14 for SK chairman, and 62 for barangay kagawad.

Police said the six-day filing of COCs in the province from August 28 to September 3 was generally peaceful.

No untoward incidents were recorded during the filing of COCs.

Quezon is composed of 39 towns and two cities and has 1,242 barangays.
