Lyceum overcame a huge fightback from Perpetual to score a hard-earned 76-72 victory in the NCAA Season 99 men's basketball tournament on Saturday, Sept. 30, at the FilOil EcoiOil Center in San Juan City.

Shawn Umali drilled in a crucial putback while Vince Cunanan sank a couple of free throws in the waning seconds to help the Pirates seal the win en route to their perfect 3-0 record to start the season.
Enoch Valdez topcscored for Lyceum with 13 points, while Mclaude Guadana and Patrick Montana had nine each. Endgame heroes Umali and Cunanan, meanwhile, had eight and seven points, respectively.
Thanks to Guadana and Montana's early assault, the Intramuros-based squad seized the momentum and contained Mark Omega's solo effort for the Altas which kept his team well within striking distance before the break.
In the third frame, Lyceum turned up the tempo around when it unloaded a 14-2 run which hiked the lead to 18, 56-38, midway through the period.
However, Christian Pagaran had other things in mind when he spearheaded Perpetual's last-ditch attack capped by a booming triple that cut the lead to just two, 70-72, with less than a minute left.
Fortunately, Umali and Cunanan came to the rescue with their clutch hits for the Pirates.
Jelo Razon and Omega anchored the Altas with 14 points each. Pagaran had 11 while Art Roque added 10 points.
In the first game, San Sebastian claimed its first win with a lopsided 111-86 victory over Arellano.
Mark de Leon scored 16 points and grabbed three rebounds while Rafael Are and Jessi Sumoda added 15 and 14 points, respectively.
The Golden Stags now carry a 1-1 record while the Chiefs remain winless in two games.
