Cop dies in motorcycle crash in Ilocos Sur

BANTAY, Ilocos Sur – A police officer died in a motorcycle accident on the national highway in Barangay Puspus, Bantay, Ilocos Sur early Friday morning, September 29.

Police said the victim, Police Staff Sgt. Romualdo Mario Valorozo Piamonte Jr., 46, assigned to the Provincial Police Mobile Group and resident of Barangay 4, Vigan City, was driving his motorcycle when he accidentally rammed into an Isuzu pickup truck while overtaking a trailer truck.

Piamonte was seriously injured and died before reaching the hospital.

The driver of the pickup truck,  John Ariel Lagadon Duco, 57, of Badoc, Ilocos Norte, was injured and the driver of the trailer truck, Sergio Managkay Engco, 51, of Barangay Dominlog, Calauag, Quezon, was unhurt.

Follow-up probe of the incident is ongoing.
