A total of 33 families from Caloocan City received livelihood packages from the city government on Friday, Sept. 29., as part of the city's initiative against child labor.

According to the city government unit, the qualified parents received support from the city's Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in the form of "bigasan" packages, which included two sacks of rice, weighing scales, and bags for repacking.
Mayor Dale Gonzalo "Along" Malapitan said Caloocan is a child-friendly city. He assured that his administration is consistently implementing programs against all forms of child abuse.
“Isang klase lamang po ng abuso sa kabataan ang child labor kaya naman sinisiguro natin na lahat ng karahasan at pang-aabuso ay maiiwasan natin. Marami na po tayong programa at proyektong nasimulan ngunit asahan po ninyo na hindi tayo tumitigil sa pagkilos upang bigyan ng magandang buhay ang mga Batang Kankaloo (Child labor is just one form of abuse against the youth, which is why we ensure that all forms of violence and abuse are prevented. We have initiated many programs and projects, but rest assured we don't stop taking action to provide a better life for the Kankaloo Children),” Mayor Along said.

The city mayor also acknowledged the Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC) Assessment for the recognition given to the Caloocan City in prioritizing the welfare of youths.
"Nakikita naman po natin sa mga pagkilala na natanggap ng lungsod ang ating kakayahan na unahin ang kapakanan ng mga kabataan. Kamakailan lamang, kinilala tayo sa LCPC Assessment bilang isang lungsod na may ‘ideal’ rating pagdating sa pangangalaga ng interes ng mga bata (We can see from the recognition that the city has received that we have the capability to prioritize the welfare of our youth. Recently, we were acknowledged in the LCPC Assessment as a city with an 'ideal' rating in terms of safeguarding the interests of children),” he added.

Malapitan also expressed his appreciation to PESO and its collaborators for their united endeavors aimed at eradicating child labor in a comprehensive and constructive manner.
"Strictly prohibiting child labor is a significant step, but we also understand that it may happen repeatedly without further actions. We are grateful to the PESO and their partner agencies and companies because they ensure that we can address the root of this problem," he said.
According to PESO, around 100 parents had already received support from the city government through an initial livelihood distribution held during the primary commemoration of World Day Against Child Labor on June 23.
