209 new Covid-19 cases recorded; fatality rate steady at 1.6% --- DOH


The Department of Health (DOH) recorded 209 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of Covid-19 cases in the Philippines to 4,114,680.

The latest update from DOH as of Sept. 29 reported no additional Covid-19-related fatalities, maintaining the fatality rate at 1.6 percent.


Based on the data, the country has 3,018 active Covid-19 cases.


The DOH Covid-19 Tracker also revealed 203 new recoveries, representing a 98.3 percent recovery rate, with a total of 4,044,966 people having survived the virus.


On the availability of intensive care unit (ICU) beds designated for Covid-19 patients, the DOH reported that 211 beds, or 10.88 percent, of the 1,940 available ICU beds were currently occupied.


Similarly, non-ICU Covid-19 beds were frequently utilized, with 2,955, or 15.82 percent, of the 18,683 available beds in use, while mechanical ventilators, numbering 2,079, had 98 currently in use by Covid-19 patients.


In line with this, the DOH warned the public not to become complacent in the face of the Covid-19 threat.


The health department stressed the importance of adhering to minimum health standards, which included wearing well-fitting face masks and staying in well-ventilated areas.


Those who had symptoms, the DOH said, should be isolated immediately.


DOH also reminded the public to get their Covid-19 vaccine and booster as soon as possible for added protection. (Zekinah Elize Espina)
