Murder suspect found dead during shootout with cops

BATANGAS CITY – The suspect in the murder of a man was found dead and a police officer was wounded during a follow-up operation in a hotel in Barangay Santa Rita Karsada here on Saturday night, September 2.

Police received information that the suspect, Aristotle de Chavez, of Barangay Pook na Banal, San Pascual, Batangas, entered the hotel hours after the incident.

Lawmen proceeded to the hotel and persuaded the suspect to surrender. However, De Chavez fired at police and wounded Police Staff Sgt. Paciano Asilo of the Batangas City police intelligence section in the thigh.

Police returned fire and the suspect retreated to his room. Lawmen barged inside his room and found the suspect lying on the floor with a bullet wound to the head.

Asilo was taken to the hospital and is now in stable condition.

De Chavez allegedly killed Sherwin Matanguihan while he was resting in a nipa hut in Barangay Balagtas here on Friday, September 2.

Police are conducting a technical investigation of the crime scene and the suspect was subjected to an autopsy.
