Francis Casey Alcantara and Chinese partner Sun Fajing bowed to fourth seed Ray Ho of Chinese Taipei and Matthew Romio of Australia, 6-3, 6-4, to settle for the runner-up honors in the Zhangjiagang International Challenger in China over the weekend.

The unseeded Filipino-Chinese pair fought hard but still fell short against their higher-ranked rivals in the $80,000 Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) event.
“Not the result that we wanted (today) but we played some decent tennis throughout the week,” Alcantara wrote on his social media.
This was Alcantara and Sun’s second runner-up finish after also losing in the finals of the Open Castilla y Leon tournament in Segovia, Spain last July.
Alcantara and Sun opened their campaign with a stunning 6-0, 6-3 upset victory over Indian second seeds Rithvik Choudary Bollipalli and Arjun Kadhe before routing wildcard duo Li Hanwen and Wang Xiaofei of China, 6-3, 6-1.
They also survived the hot start of Chinese pair Bu Yunchaokete and Te Rigele before prevailing 7-6 (7), 6-3, to advance to the finals.
Alcantara is expected to improve his ATP doubles ranking of No. 226 following their finish. He had a career-high ranking of No. 224 last month.
