2,447 file COCs for village polls in Cauayan City, Isabela

CAUAYAN CITY, Isabela – More than 2,000 residents in this city have filed Certificates of Candidacy for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections on October 30.

Christopher Thiam, city election officer, said 2,447 candidates filed COCs, 135 percent higher than the 1,810 in the last barangay elections in 2018.

Thiam said the filing of COCs here was generally peaceful and theorized that the increase in the number of candidates could be due to the postponements of the elections.

To deter vote-buying by the candidates during the election period, the Comelec-Region 2 will launch the “Kontra Bigay” advocacy.

Jerbee Anthony Cortez, Comelec-Region 2 assistant regional director, said  that the BSKE campaign period will be held from October 19 to 28. The filing of COCs started on August 28 and ended on September 2.
