Village, SK bets in Lucban, Quezon sign covenant for peaceful polls


LUCBAN, Quezon – Candidates on Thursday, September 28, signed a covenant initiated by the police, religious sector, Commission on Elections, and the Department of Interior and Local Government for a peaceful barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections here next month.

Police Major Marnie Abellanida, chief of police here, said that candidates showed cooperation and support for a peaceful, fair, and honest election on October 30.

Reverend Monsignor Melecio Verastigue blessed the candidates as well as agencies involved in the polls.

Candidates held a unity walk around the town proper before signing the covenant led by municipal election officer Sitti Meriam Codah.

This town has 1,020 candidates –  83 for barangay chairman, 515 for barangay kagawad (councilor), 64 for Sangguniang Kabataan chairman, and 358 for SK kagawad

Lucban is known as the Art Capital, Dance Capital, and Rice Capital of Quezon and the well-known Pahiyas Festival and the home of the Kamay ni Hesus (Hand of Jesus) Shrine.
