Senator urges Malacañang to consider 'no work, no pay' workers of 'It's Showtime'
Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. on Friday, September 29 urged the Office of the President (OP) to consider the workers of noontime show “It’s Showtime” who would be affected by the Movie Television Review and Classification Board’s (MTRCB) decision to mete it a 12-day suspension order.
Revilla pointed out workers at the noon time show would have to contend to a “no work, no pay” policy since most of them are contractual workers.
"Without getting into the merits of the case, sana na-consider ng MTRCB ang kapakanan nung mga maliliit na staff at crew nung show na wala namang kinalaman at kasalanan dun sa nangyari (I hope the MTRCb considered the welfare of the show’s support staff and crew who had nothing to do with what happened),” said Revilla, who is also an actor.
“Sila yung mga 'no work-no pay' na kung matutuloy ang suspension ay dalawang linggong walang kikitain at kakainin (These are the no work, no pay workers, that should the suspension ever be implemented, they would have nothing to earn or eat for two weeks),” he explained.
Revilla made the call after the MTRCB denied the motion for reconsideration filed by the production team of ABS-CBN’s “It’s Showtime” and GMA.
The decision was borne out of viewers’ complaints against Vice Ganda, one of the show’s host, who licked icing off the finger of co-host and real-life partner Ion Perez.
MTRCB chair Lala Sotto-Antonio earlier announced that she has inhibited from ruling on the suspension “in the spirit of transparency and in the spirit of fairness.”
Revilla, nevertheless, believes ABS-CBN and GMA will file an appeal with the OP within the allowed 15-day period.
Once it is reviewed, the lawmaker said he is confident, humanitarian considerations should be given importance.
"I think lessons have been learned,” Revilla said.
“Kung nagkaroon man ng pagkakamali, ang kasalanan ni Juan ay hindi kasalanan ni Pedro. So I hope we don't punish those working hard day in-day out just to eke out a living,” the senator reiterated.
