Marikina District 2 Representative Stella Quimbo led the inauguration and blessing of the new academic building of the Marikina Polytechnic College (MPC) on Friday. Sept. 29.
The opening of the "Gusaling Pang-Akademiko" or academic building was held simultaneously with the celebration of MPC's 76th founding anniversary.
The six-story building now houses the school's technology libraries, technology laboratories, and the college theater.
It was made through the initiative of Quimbo and her husband, former Marikina Rep. Miro Quimbo, in partnership with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
The construction of the building, which began in 2016 during the term then MPC President Dr. Joselito Gutierrez, was part of Quimbo's "Smart Campus" project.
The Smart Campus project focuses on utilizing information and technology (ICT) modernization and digitalization to improve the quality and delivery of education in schools.
The academic building has been retrofit to accommodate advanced ICT tools and equipment to prepare MPC as a "fully wired campus."
According to Quimbo, MPC is the first Smart Campus in the National Capital Region (NCR), and one of five Smart Campuses in the country.
Essentially, this indicates that all teachers of MPC have laptops and all classrooms are equipped with computers, she added.
During the 75th anniversary of MPC last 2022, Quimbo said her office has allotted a P950 million budget to transform MPC into a Smart Campus by 2040.
"Ang investments sa education ay laging may kabalikat na magandang kinabukasan (Investments in education lead to a better future)," said Quimbo to the MPC students during the program.
She added that technology and innovation, through the added facilities, would help the students at present, as well as the next generations of pupils at MPC.
Quimbo assured the MPC that she will always be an ally to the college, supporting its programs and projects for the betterment of the students.
