The FSP aims to alleviate the lingering incidence of food poverty and malnutrition among low-income Filipino households through the provision of meal augmentation worth P3,000.

The program will initially benefit an estimated 600 families in the Caraga region who are classified as food poor alongside pregnant and nursing mothers.

During the kick-off ceremony of the FSP, Marcos stressed that the program integrates solutions to the problem of food and financial insecurity.

“Kailangan ang masustansya na pagkain ang ating ibigay para sa ating mga kababayan (We need to give nutritious food to our countrymen)…quality of food that we are launching today here,” the President said during the kick-off ceremony.

He underscored the national government’s commitment to advance programs that are anchored on addressing the challenges in achieving the holistic food security agenda.

The Chief Executive was assisted by Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian during the rollout of the FSP.

The FSP is a fully digitized program implemented by the DSWD in partnership with the World Food Program and the Asian Development Bank.

Beneficiaries will be granted monthly food credits worth P3,000 for six months under the program.

Food credits can be used to purchase nutrition-rich food items from DSWD-accredited partner retailers.

An initial 50 households here, the first batch of beneficiaries in the region, can now use their electronic benefit cards to purchase a combination of nutritious food items from DSWD-accredited partner merchants such as the Kadiwa ng Pangulo stalls.

The FSP will also provide nutrition development classes and training programs to reskill the beneficiaries.

To regularly receive monthly food credits, beneficiaries must attend nutrition education sessions, technical skills training from the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, and job fairs organized by the Department of Labor and Employment.

Also on Friday, Marcos also distributed quality Jasmine rice to 4,256 beneficiaries here.

The President was welcomed here by Surigao del Norte Rep. Francisco Jose “Bingo” F. Matugas, Gov. Lyndon Barbers, and Dapa Mayor Elizabeth Matugas.
