Mayor Honey, San Miguel Corp. launch community center in Smokey Mountain, Tondo

Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan joined San Miguel Corporation (SMC) President Ramon Ang in launching a new community center at Smokey Mountain in Tondo, Manila, on Friday, Sept. 29.

The program was called "Better World Community Center", the fifth community center in the Philippines under the SMC foundation.

The Better World Community Center is a four-story building with areas for learning and development for children and their families who are currently living at Smokey Mountain.

Ang said in his speech that he grew up and studied in Tondo, and like him, every student at Smokey Mountain can be successful in life.
 
He also said that he and the company will continuously support the program and the students.
 
Lacuna-Pangan shows gratitude to Ang and to the whole SMC Corp. on behalf of the Manilans for all the help given to the city, including the said program that focuses on kids and older Manila residents.
 
"Again, pinadama sa atin ng SMC sa pamamagitan ng San Miguel Foundation ang kanilang sinserong malasakit sa kapwa (Again, SMC through the San Miguel Foundation made us feel again their sincere concern for people)," the mayor said.
 
"Itong programang ito ay isang napaka-konkretong programa na handang makatulong sa mga pamilyang manilenyo na magkaroon ng kakayahan na abutin ang kanilang pangarap (This program is a very concrete program that is ready to help families in Manila gain the ability to reach their dreams)," she added.
 
San Miguel Foundation also partnered with the AHA Learning Center, Sandiwaan Center for Learning, and Tulong Sa Pag-unlad Inc. Sambayanihan, Project Pearls, and Upskills Foundation.

The SMC Foundation is a non-profit organization that has extensive experience in development work, with expertise in mass communication, business, administration, social work, development studies, and social entrepreneurship that helps communities solve social problems. It focuses on communities, the environment, and capacity building.
