BUTUAN CITY – A magnitude-4.9 earthquake rattled Surigao del Sur before dawn on Friday, September 29.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the tremor was recorded at 1:06 a.m. and its epicenter was 47 kilometers (kms) northeast of Cagwait, Surigao del Sur.
The tremor had a depth of 18 kms, Phivolcs said.
No damage or injuries are expected from the tectonic earthquake.
The Surigao del Sur Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported no damage or injury from the tremor.
Hours later at 5:54 a.m., a magnitude-3.5 tectonic earthquake rocked the province and its epicenter was 49 kms northeast of Cagwait, with a shallow depth of eight kms.
