'Alabang' trends as motorists, commuters get stuck in heavy traffic

The topic “Alabang” in Muntinlupa trended Thursday night on X (formerly Twitter) as people let out their anger and frustration of being stuck in heavy traffic for hours. 

“Alabang had the worst traffic today. grabe. my gadddd,” one netizen posted on X.

Another wrote, “Tthe traffic today is SOBRANG LALA [really severe]. parking lot yung buong alabang viaduct

“Ang lala ng traffic sa alabang area kanina. 1.5 hours sa west service road tapos 1 hour sa may commerce ave [Traffic was severe in the Alabang area earlier. 1.5 hours on west service road then 1 hour at commerce ave],” another netizen posted.    

Another commented, “STAY AWAY FROM ALABANG TONIGHT. BE WARNED.”

Motorists and commuters spent hours on the road before they were able to reach their homes. 

Netizen Kenneth Macurong uploaded a video showing vehicles not moving in the Alabang viaduct area on Sept. 28. 

Danidon Nolasco, head of the Muntinlupa Traffic Management Bureau (MTMB), explained that floods in certain areas prevented vehicles from passing through roads. 

“Hindi makadaan kasi.baha po sa ibat ibang area. Then nun nawala na po baha volume na po dahil sa.naipon na sasakayan. Even slex [South Luzon Expressway] po hindi nagalaw kaya affected.din tayo sa labas (Vehicles could not pass through because it was flooded in different areas. When the floods subsided, it was the volume of vehicles. It was not moving even in slex so we were also affected),” said Nolasco. 

He said MTMB personnel worked beyond their 9 p.m. duty to help control traffic in the Alabang area.
