50% of Filipinos dissatisfied with K to 12 program; 89% prefer June-March academic year — survey

A Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey revealed on Thursday, Sept, 28 that 50 percent of adult Filipinos are dissatisfied with the K to 12 Basic Education Program, while 39 percent are satisfied with the curriculum.

About 9 percent are undecided whether they are satisfied or dissatisfied with K to 12, while the remaining 2 percent lack sufficient knowledge to provide an opinion, SWS said.

The K to 12 Program is a comprehensive education system that includes kindergarten and 12 years of basic education, aiming to provide mastery of concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education, middle-level skills development, employment, and entrepreneurship.

During the same survey period, SWS bared that 89 percent of Filipinos prefer the previous June to March academic calendar.

Meanwhile, only 10 percent prefer the September to June school year.

The remaining 1 percent have no preference.

The Second Quarter 2023 SWS Survey, conducted from June 28 to July 23, involved face-to-face interviews with 1,500 respondents nationwide.
