Brig. Gen. Rizalito Gapas, Northern Police District (NPD) director, has relieved two Malabon City Police Station (MCPS) officials after a policeman shot dead two people and wounded another in Barangay Acacia, Malabon City on Wednesday, Sept. 27.

Gapas announced on Friday, Sept. 29, that MCPS chief Col. Jay Baybayan and Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Jonas Gato were administratively relieved from their posts to give way for the investigation to determine if they had any involvement or command responsibility in the shooting incident.
The suspect in Malabon shooting incident was identified as Patrolman Zenjoe del Rosario, a member of Malabon City Police Station's Drug Enforcement Unit (MCPS-DEU).
Del Rosario has been in the police service for around five years and has no record of criminal or administrative cases, Gapas said.
Based on the report, Del Rosario went to the residence of one Alexis Gutierrez in Barangay Acacia, Malabon City, on board a motorcycle, and opened fire at the victims on Wednesday.
Gutierrez and one Jay Apas died, while a certain Baby Tadiamon sustained gunshot wounds and is now undergoing treatement at the Tondo Medical Center in Manila.
Following the incident, Gapas said Del Rosario surrendered to his chief officer and was subsequently arrested.
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) conducted an extensive investigation, including various tests such as medical examination and paraffin test, which confirmed the suspect's involvement in the shooting.
Del Rosario was charged with two counts of murder and one count of frustrated murder.

Gapas said they will not tolerate the wrongdoings of his policemen.
He added that they are conducting programs and regular seminars to make sure that the policemen were reminded of their duties.
“Marami tayong program para masiguro natin ang mga pulis natin ay nasa tamang pag-iisip (We have many programs in place to ensure that our police officers are mentally stable),” he added.
"Mayroong nagkakamali, pero ito'y hindi kinukunsinti naman. Ipagpatuloy natin ang malinis na trabaho at gumawa nang tama (Some make mistakes, but we don't condone them. Let's continue to do good works and make the right moves)," he said.
