LTO issues show cause order vs SUV owner in another viral road rage video

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a Show Cause Order (SCO) against the registered owner of a sports utility vehicle (SUV) whose driver engaged in a violent confrontation with a bicycle rider in Marikina City.

LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II said the SCO is part of the ongoing investigation, which is also aimed at determining if the registered owner was the same person who was seen in the video of the incident which went viral in the social media.

In the SCO issued by the LTO-National Capital Region and signed by Regional Director Roque Verzosa III, the registered owner of the Nissan Patrol with license plate NFY 4437 was asked to explain why he should not be held liable for four violations of traffic laws.

They are for reckless driving, disregarding traffic sign, obstruction of traffic, and improper person to operate a motor vehicle.

The registered owner was asked to appear before the LTO-NCR on Oct. 2 with a notarized affidavit explaining the incident.

Further, the SCO indicated that the registration of the vehicle would be preventively suspended for 90 days unless resolved earlier.

The LTO – NCR also warned the registered owner that failure to appear and submit an affidavit would be construed as a waiver to be heard and that authorities will be forced to resolve the issue based on available records.

“There are a number of road rage cases and this action revealed that your LTO is quick in addressing them to ensure that our roads are safe for all users,” said Mendoza.

Mendoza also reminded drivers and motorists anew to be patient and show some respect when it comes to road sharing.
