Jerom Lastimosa to miss games in final UAAP year due to knee injury

Adamson star Jerom Lastimosa won’t be seeing action in a couple of games in his final collegiate year when UAAP Season 86 kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 30.

The 5-foot-10 combo guard is still nursing a knee injury according to Adamson head coach Nash Racela, delaying his return on the floor for the Soaring Falcons one last time this season. 

Lastimosa has previously revealed that he received an offer to play professional overseas, but decided to ultimately turn it down and finish his collegiate eligibility with Adamson. 

“The team is very hopeful that he makes it in time for the games. He’ll definitely miss some games, mas kaunti, mas maganda para sa amin,” Racela said. 

“He’s going aggressive rehabilitation. Hopefully, he makes it. He’ll miss some games, so hindi ko alam gaano katagal,” he added. 

The 25-year-old Lastimosa was certainly a key player in Adamson’s dream run which ended in a Final Four finish last year. 

However, the Soaring Falcons lineup sans Lastimosa, will be tested right away when they open the new season against Season 85 finalist University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons on Sunday, Oct. 1. 

With Lastimosa’s indefinite absence, Racela is hoping that the squad will find its footing well into the season and eventually duplicate, if not eclipse last year’s success. 

“We’re hoping it’s amazing as well. Ganu’n pa rin. We expect ‘yong mga usual suspects to be there. Expectation is always different from reality. We’re hoping to duplicate what we did last year in terms of making it to the Final Four,” Racela said. 

“We can never really tell kung ano ang chances. You do your best, you prepare yourselves. Hopefully, makasingit ka. Kayo rin, alam niyo naman sino ‘yong expect niyong mga papasok, we just hope we could change that,” he concluded.
