The drama stars Yoon Kye-sang (“Kiss Sixth Sense”), Park Sung-hoon (“The Glory”), Yoo Na, and Kim Shin-rock (“Moving,” “Reborn Rich”).
The 12-episode “The Kidnapping Day” will have new episodes every Wednesday and Thursday. It is about clumsy kidnapper Kim Myeong-jun (Yoon Kye-sang) who abducts child genius Choi Ro-hee (Yoo Na). However, things do not go as planned.
In an interview with Manila Bulletin, Yoon Kye-sang, Park Sung-hoon and Kim Shin-rock discussed their new drama project and working together.
Yoon Kye-sang, 44, a former member of Korean boy band g.o.d, said “The Kidnapping Day” gives a new perspective on the meaning of a family.
“I think it can suggest a new approach to how you think about the meaning of family. I'm sure once you watch, you'll keep watching,” he said.
Among his dramas are “Chocolate,” “High Kick: Revenge of the Short Legged” and “The Good Wife.”
In choosing his drama projects, Yoon Kye-sang says he focuses on the story and character.
“I think about several things such as whether the story is interesting and whether I can do it well. In the case of this drama, it was good to feel that the meaning and way of expressing it was fresh, and maybe because I've acted in genre titles, I've had a lot of serious characters, but it felt good to be offered a completely opposite character,” he said.
Park Sung-hoon is known for starring in the hit drama “The Glory,” and now in “The Kidnapping Day.” He was also cast in “Squid Game” season 2.
He said he is lucky to be in the drama projects.
“I think it is great fortune as an actor to be able to participate in such good projects. I don't dare think I have a successful career yet, but I want to become an actor who grows more and more based on the experience of participating in good projects,” he said.
Park Sung-hoon also commented on working with Yoon Kye-sang and Kim Shin-rock/
“I was able to work with Yoon Kye-sang from the mid to late stages. While talking a lot, we discovered many similarities and we were able to get close in a short amount of time. Personally, I think it is great luck to get to know Yoon Kye-sang while filming ‘The Kidnapping Day,’” he said.
He added, “I remember filming with admiration because Yuna showed professional and solid acting skills on set. Kim Shin-rock has the ability to analyze the script sharply and is great at expressing, so I was surprised every time we filmed.”
Actress Kim Shin-rok has starred in “Hellbound,” “Moving” and “Reborn Rich,” and now in “The Kidnapping Day.”
She said viewers should look out for the conversations between Yoon Kye-sang and Yoo Na.
“Myeong-jun [Yoon Kye-sang] and Ro-hee's [Yoo Na] back-and-forth conversations are really fun. Haha. I didn't think that I would be watching TV as an adult and giggling. But the whole story moves fast and flows tightly, with twists and turns. Try to uncover the truth of the case with Myeong-jun and Ro-hee,” she said.
When picking the dramas to star in, she said, “I examine whether the script is fun and structurally complete, whether the character is interesting and has room to challenge me, and the people I would be working with.”
