Gov't employees lead medical mission for underprivileged
Government officials and employees from various regions came together on Thursday, Sept. 28 to commemorate the 123rd Philippine Civil Service Anniversary (PCSA) with the nationwide “Medical Mission of Government Workers.”
The medical mission aimed to provide essential medical and dental services to marginalized sectors throughout the country.
"Public service is rooted in the promise to uplift the marginalized and those with limited access to essential services. As a way to give back to communities, this year’s PCSA celebration includes medical mission activities to be held in different parts of the country,” CSC Chairperson Karlo Nograles said.
Acting Director IV Rosalinda A. Tanaliga-Oliva led the CSC Regional Office III in organizing the nationwide medical mission, including dental services for various beneficiaries.
The recipients included indigenous peoples, elderly individuals in centers and homecare, persons with disabilities, abandoned children and battered women, juvenile delinquents, and persons deprived of liberty.
Farm workers, fisherfolk, informal settlers, and street dwellers were also invited to receive basic medical check-ups.
“The fourth week of the PCSA gives importance to pasasalamat or expressing gratitude and recognizing the valuable support of all government employees and stakeholders in helping us reach 123 years of excellent service. Extending assistance to our kababayans is the best way to cap this month-long celebration of public service and resilience,” Nograles said.
The annual PCSA celebration commemorates the signing of Public Law No. 5 or An Act for the Establishment and Maintenance of an Efficient and Honest Civil Service in the Philippine Islands on Sept. 19, 1900.
The celebration is also pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 1050, series of 1997 signed by former President Fidel V. Ramos declaring September as Civil Service Month.
