CAMP RAFAEL C. RODRIGUEZ, Butuan City – Police arrested a woman wanted for cyber libel in Bislig City on Tuesday, September 26.
Police Regional Office-13 chief Police Brig. Gen. Kirby John B. Kraft identified the suspect as alias “Annod.”
Kraft said the suspect, the Top 2 most wanted person in Bislig City, was nabbed by the Regional Intelligence Division-Special Operation Unit and Bislig City Police Station in Market Site District, Barangay Mangagoy.
The suspect was apprehended based on a warrant of arrest for four counts of cyber libel under Republic Act No. 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 issued by the Regional Trial Court, 11th Judicial Region, Branch 46.
The court set bail at P30,000 for each count.
Police said the suspect allegedly publicly accused her victim of being a thief in a social media post.
Kraft advised social media enthusiasts to think twice before posting any libelous remarks online.
“I encourage all our social media users to think twice before they click because libelous remarks posted online are punishable under the cybercrime law,” he said. “With the accessibility of social media platforms comes a responsibility to use this medium properly and judiciously.”
