Bong Go hails PH gov't for removing floating barrier at Scarborough Shoal
Senator Christopher “Bong” Go has lauded the Marcos administration for the removal of the floating barrier installed by the China Coast Guard (CCG) at Scarborough Shoal and renewed his call for the government to strengthen its defense of Philippine sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“Ipaglaban natin ang atin (Let’s fight for what is ours). What is ours is ours,” said Go, reiterating his stance on the West Philippine Sea issue.
“Trabaho po 'yun ng ating mga nasa gobyerno, sa Executive Department, DFA, PCG. I'm sure alam nila ang kanilang ginagawa (That is the job our government, the Executive Department, Department of Foreign Affairs and Philippine Coast Guard. I’m sure they know what they are doing,” Go further said.
Eliminating the barrier, however, has heightened tensions between the Philippines and China, with the latter asserting ownership of more than 90 percent of the South China Sea.
Nevertheless, Go said he supports President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.’s order to remove the barrier.
Go recently criticized the series of reported harassments by China particularly in the disputed waters of Ayungin Shoal. Thankfully, he said, the PCG successfully navigated Ayungin last September 8 when they conducted another resupply mission at BRP Sierra Madre.
The senator also stressed the need for a unified stance to protect the country’s rights and rightful claims to its territories and exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
“Dapat po ay respetuhin ang ating karapatan. Kung ano ang karapatan natin na mag-resupply tayo, atin po ‘yon, karapatan po natin ‘yun. Ipaglaban po natin ang ating karapatan (Our rights should be respected. We have the right to resupply. That is ours, and thus we have the right. Let us fight for our rights),” Go reiterated.
