6 Iloilo City gov't workers nabbed for stealing cable wires

ILOILO CITY – Six employees of the Iloilo City government were caught stealing cable wires and using government vehicle to transport them.

Mayor Jerry Treñas here announced that one regular employee and five casual employees under the Iloilo City Engineer’s Office were allegedly involved in the theft of active main copper wires of telecommunications giant PLDT Inc.

Treñas did not identify the six government employees.

“In behalf of the city government, I apologize for (the actions) of these employees,” said Treñas in a statement.

Treñas could not hide his dismay over the incident at the celebration of the 122nd Police Service Anniversary of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) on Wednesday, September 27.

Treñas said there should be no mercy for those who do wrong, especially when they are working for the government. “They are given the option of resigning from their employment immediately or face criminal and administrative cases,” Treñas added.
